How could someone coming from a
multi-generational poverty pattern know
how to comfortably handle success?
It's like expecting a young
man raised in
the dessert to know how to sail a boat!
While working in the chemical dependency treatment field,
Kendra Grant noticed an increase in clients who were
successful athletes that were self-destructing at an alarming
rate. Most of them were not being treated successfully. Once
the athlete left the protected atmosphere of the facility, they'd
return to the same harmful behaviors, much to the frustration
and dismay of their families, coaches, teammates and their
agents. She began to research this demographic and learned
most of them shared the following key characteristics:
They had been motivated to succeed by difficult
circumstances in their formative years.
They'd never experienced, and in some cases never
witnessed, high levels of success.
Their self-destructive behaviors took place in the company
of friends from the same background.
The research process took place over the course of a couple
years. During that time Kendra started her own business,
providing Interventions, Sober Companionship, Meditation
Instruction and Life Coaching services. She's drawn upon her
personal, educational and professional experience to create
Core Belief Conditioning, a wellness coaching service for
athletes and performers who have been motivated to succeed
by difficult circumstances.
This service is designed as a life coaching service, meaning
there's an educational presentation, time for questions and
answers, direct suggestions given, and a guided meditation
utilizing Visual Motor Rehearsal. This service can be offered to a
group of players, or to an individual:
The group presentation takes places weekly, over a period
of 8 or 16 weeks.
The individual sessions take place weekly, over the course
of 12 weeks.
When athletes have negative Core Beliefs, yet the
circumstances of their lives are successful they experience
what's called Cognitive Dissonance - a formal way of saying
their insides and outsides don't match! Symptoms of Cognitive
Dissonance can range from a nagging feeling of discontent to
raging, inexplicable self-destruction.
When they condition their Core Beliefs, they're relieved of
feelings of alienation and discomfort, and are then free to enjoy
success gracefully.
